Sony may have shot down rumors of the PlayStation Store re-opening today, but there is still a shimmer of hope that gamers may be able to collect their exclusive DLC content by tomorrow. Sony just might be activating the Redeem-Code feature of the PlayStation Store tonight.
Sony did not count on millions of gamers to be upset when they relaunched their PlayStation Network service. One of the reasons why people buy a game for a certain console is because of the DLC goodies they are promised, and, unfortunately, they completely overlooked the fact that a lot of games require an unlock code to be played online, nowadays. For instance; two huge games with an average metacritic score of 85, Mortal Kombat and DiRT 3, require unlocks which must be done via the PlayStation Store. Sony were a little behind but eventually realized the dilemma before organizing a “no-pass required” agreement until the PlayStation Store is back up and operational. But it isn’t just Mortal Kombat–this issue can plague a large variety of games that require and online pass, and, instead of making more “no-pass required” agreements, it would be easier for Sony just to activate the Redeem-Code feature that is available in the Account Management section.
DiRT 3 released today and the VIP code, that you’re required to redeem through the PlayStation Network, unlocks a rather large portion of the game, including a lot of cars, the YouTube feature, and the online multi-player. It is important that Sony get this feature up and running as soon as possible so that people can play the games that they’ve payed for.
The Account Management section is undergoing some maintenance right now, so it is very possible that gamers might actually be able to redeem their special DLC and unlock codes. Only time will tell. Until then, let’s keep our fingers crossed.
