| Subject: Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer servers down for “maintenance,” Xbox 360 not affected Tue Jun 21, 2011 12:57 pm | |
| PlayStation 3 owners have already been through enough this year with the PlayStation Network hack, but now, BlOps players on that platform are out of luck. Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer servers have been down for some time today, and it’s not just PS3 players who are being affected; some Wii and PC users also were unable to connect.
Josh Olin, Treyarch’s community manager, tweeted earlier today that some PS3, PC, and Wii players “may experience temporary difficulties connecting.” He attributed it to a “datacenter maintenance window.” Not unexpectedly, some people think this is just a cover-up and Treyarch, the creators of CoD: Black Ops, has actually been hacked. We can’t confirm anything of the sort, but rumors of Anonymous or LulzSec having a hand in the outage are floating around the Twitterverse. Neither Treyarch nor Black Ops publisher Activision have yet to release a statement or any more information about the outage.
Xbox 360 users, however, are able to access the game without any problems. Xbox owners will also be the first to have access to the new Black Ops DLC, Annihilation map pack that hits the Xbox 360 on June 28. We’re still waiting to hear when it will be made available for the other platforms. As we reported earlier, the map pack will feature five new maps, including four traditional multiplayer maps and one special “zombie-themed” map. | |
