E3 2012: “Gears of War: Judgment” Gameplay Trailer
The Gears of War: Judgment gameplay trailer has hit the internet showing off bits of the campaign and the new OverRun mode.
As stated earlier today, Judgment will place gamers in control as Lieutenant Damon Baird 14 years before the first Gears of War game. Rod Fergusson, Director of Development at Epic Games, promises a more open Gears compared to the past trilogy. “Judgment is kind of unique in the Gears of War franchise because it has a different style of gameplay. Its sort of not the scripted cinematic way that we played of Gears 1, 2, and 3. It’s a lot more open.”
Judgment will also bring a brand new class-based 5v5 multiplayer mode to the series. Quinn Delhoyo, Multiplayer Designer at Epic Games, describes it as an Offensive Locust vs a Defensive COG game mode. Players will be able to play as an Engineer, Scout, Soldier, or Medic on the COG side, while playing Locust allows gamers to choose from an arsenal of characters similar to Gears of War 3‘s Beast mode. Each class will have specific moves and abilities available only to their class type.
Fergusson says the idea for OverRun came from fans of the series. “People kept asking, ‘Why can’t you play Horde versus Beast?’ and we actually tried it, but certain things didn’t work quite as well in [Gears] 3. When we had the chance with a new product, Gears of War: Judgment, we said let’s revisit that and see what we have to do to make it work. And sure enough, the class-based system really solidified that design and made it work really well.”
