Break out the flashlights, things are about to get funkadelic on Xbox Live Arcade. The seminal Sega classics Toejam and Earl and Toejam and Earl in Panic on Funkotron will be coming to XBLA soon.
Toejam and Earl creators Greg Johnson and Mark Voorsanger have confirmed Sega's plans, though the publisher has yet to make an official decree of funkitude. Johnson wasn't sure if the games would be bundled together in a similar fashion as other Sega Vintage Collection games like Streets of Rage, but the mere knowledge that these two titles will be coming to XBLA should make many fans of the cult classic very happy.
Xbox owners haven't had the pleasure of Toejam and Earl's company since Toejam and Earl III: Mission to Earth in 2002 (which is not backwards-compatible, unfortunately), but Johnson did add he has potential future plans for the duo. "I particularly want to create a new cross platform multi-player version of TJ & E and set the characters in some new environments," Johnson said. "But with the original rogue-like game-one game play." He made sure to add that a new TJ&E wasn't something happening any time soon, but that he was surprised so many people kept requesting new adventures.
With no date or price in sight, we'll just have to keep monitoring the skies for signs of life.
