Other then the different maps and a few minor tweaks here and there, the difference between the Zombie modes from ‘World at War’ and ‘Black Ops 1’ is very minor, so this time round, ‘Treyarch’ have promised some major changes to their much loved Zombie mode. Thanks to an article from Joystiq.com, details of the new and improved Zombies have been revealed; including match types, stat tracking, leaderboards and more have been detailed.
According to the article from Joystig.com, ‘Treyarch’ have so far revealed three modes and they are as followed:
Tranzit: This is the main Zombies mode, allowing four players to participate in some co-op massacre action and has huge maps that allow players to freely explore and according to the developers, they will be the largest maps ever made for Zombies. In fact, the maps are that huge, you are able to travel via Bus to locations whilst gunning down some zombies in drive by like action! But be warned, just because you are travelling via bus, doesn’t mean that you are always safe. Zombies will attack your bus and they will climb aboard in numbers, making it difficult for the players to escape
Survival: This should play in a similar manner to the traditional Zombie modes from previous games of the franchise. Players will be dropped in an isolated section of the map, taken from the Tranzit world.
Grief: This is an all new mode and is quite possibly the mode that I am most excited about. Up to eight players will be able to participate in this mode, splitting players into two teams of four. Just like Survival, players will be dropped into an isolated section from the Tranzit world and it is each team’s priority to out like each other, the team that survives last, wins! Oh and before you think about all attacking one another, players won’t be able to kill one another, so this one is strictly a zombie massacre only.
With previous Zombie modes from ‘Treyarch’, even though stats were tracked to a certain extent, it remained something purely for fun to be played with friends or randoms if you’re particularly social. So even though the Zombie modes in ‘Black Ops 2’ promises to be more fun than ever, ‘Treyarch’ have gone a little more serious and made it a tad more competitive. Just like Call of Duty’s more traditional competitive multiplayer modes, Zombie modes will now be supported with extensive stat tracking, competitive and more detailed leaderboards, improved matchmaking system and the option to customise games as you please.
