Bethesda has revealed that players will be able to compete to become Emperor of Cyrodil in The Elder Scrolls Online, with perks being awarded to the lucky individual that achieves it.
Speaking to OXM, game director Paul Sage revealed that you'll be able to ascend the Cyrodilic Throne, providing you're prepared to cut a swathe of devastation in the PvP area of Cyrodil.
Actions you perform there will earn you Alliance Points, including but not limited to killing other players, healing friends and conquering keeps. While these acts will also earn you the standard experience points and loot, it's the Alliance Points that matter for anyone hoping to become Emperor.
As you take over more keeps, you'll be given bonuses and expansions to your territory. These will stack until your Alliance conquers all the keeps around the Imperial City, at which stage the individual with the most points will be crowned Emperor and unlock further bonuses for those who've worked with him or her to achieve dominance.
"Players who become Emperor will get a full skill line that they keep throughout the rest of their lives in The Elder Scrolls Online," Sage explained. "It won't be easy to become Emperor, but we think people will be glad they worked for it."
In other words, when you're inevitably dethroned your skills may be slightly less effective, but you'll still be one of the few to have access to them. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like you're going to be able to reach the same lofty political heights by pursuing PvE activities so, if you're committed to becoming Emperor, you're going to have to bite the bullet and enter the fray.
