343 Industries is looking to adjust the balance of Halo 4‘s weapons and vehicles in a future update.

While not finalised, much of the developer’s efforts have gone into counteracting the powerful Designated Marksman Rifle, not by nerfing it but by increasing the capabilities of the game’s other weapons.

“Looking at the DMR,” 343 explained, “we currently feel that the kill time should remain unchanged, as the weapon has become a clear favorite amongst the community due to its reliability and consistency.

“So tuning the Battle Rifle, LightRifle and Carbine against this weapon presented quite a challenge.”

As a result, the Battle Rifle’s kill time may be reduced from five to four shots, along with a decreased rate of fire. The Light Rifle’s range could be increased to that of the DMR and the Carbine’s kill time might be reduced from eight shots to seven.

Meanwhile, 343 is considering beefing up a number of weapons with a damage boost, including the Warthog and Mantis chain-guns, the Assault Rifle, the Suppressor and the Storm Rifle. This should all result in a faster pace of matches.
